NURS 450: Public/Community Health Experiential Nursing Learning Course
Assignment: Interview and Reflection
The purpose of this assignment is for students to interview one nurse who works in the community in order to better understand the roles, functions, and leadership attributes of nurses who practice in schools, faith communities, work sites, or public health agencies. This should not be an interview of the preceptor nor anyone at the volunteer agency. This can be a face-to-face interview or zoom meeting. Prior to the interview, the student should research the community nurse’s role (ie, if an occupational nurse, what does that nurse do?) The nurse that you interview needs to directly work in community or public health. There is an interview guide found in the D2L course. Please use this to help formulate questions.
Following the interview, the student will reflect on the role of the nurse in a one to two page reflection. The interview and reflection are two separate entries and should be uploaded in the assignment box by the due date listed in the course calendar.
Finally, the student should upload their reflection in the appropriate discussion board. During the discussion, students should discuss the various roles nurses play in the community. See discussion forum for more information on the discussion. Discussion points are awarded separately.

Directions:
· Set up an interview with a community/public health nurse.
· Prior to the visit, find out about the nurse’s role and responsibilities.
· Interview the nurse, using the interview guide. This can be turned in to the assignment box IF it is legible. If not, please type up notes on the interview guide. This does not need to be in APA formatting.
· Following the interview, write a 1-2 page reflection on the role of the nurse, including how the nurse in community settings uses evidence-based practice to achieve positive outcomes. Follow rubric for other information to include in the reflection.
· Upload interview guide and reflection in assignment boxes by the due date on the calendar. Upload the interview reflection in the discussion area for discussion with peers.
